Do we REALLY have to do that?
I've got a neighbour I can't stand. The husband of a collegue, he has irritated me from the first day he stepped into my office and wheedled his way into the institution. He is arrogant, he's pushy, he's not a nice guy. I tried to be nice to him, but have ended up just ignoring him - it seems better that way than to show that I don't like him. He ignores me too.
Am I supposed to love my neighbour? It seems a non-negotiable in Jesus' books. But I can't seem to live it out with this particular person. I've tried to see the good points in this guy. I've tried to smile and say hi, at the very least - but get ignored from his side anyway.
Do we have to FORCE loving our neighbour if we've tried for a few years and just can't? Or is it OK to just ignore each other until we're no longer neighbours?
